35 hours that's what it took, not the most convenient trip but at least it only cost me 170 Euros. Thanking my ex-employer for the air miles! You could also do the trip in 14 hours if you rather want to do that. So what did my trip look like then;
Amsterdam to Paris where I had to sleep in the airport, ensure you bring a duvet if you want to do the same. Such a cold airport but at least it was silent and they had comfy chairs to sleep on. After the night in Paris I took a flight to New York JFK, here I had to transfer to La Guardia which meant going through security, pick up luggage and arrange my own transfer. I had 2.5 hours until next flight, have to admit that me who is normally a bit to relaxed when it comes to being on time when it comes to flying felt slightly stressed for once! Anyhow, made it to La Guardia in time but here I learned the transfer wasn't my biggest problem. Here I found out that I had another connection in Atlanta before I reached Medellin and KLM only had me checked in from Atlanta. The lovely check in lady and three other people had to get involved to check me in since the system couldn't over ride what ever was already in there. Had to laugh when she called the help desk and they transferred her around to different people only for her to get back to the first person she spoke to. Are all help desks the same??? 30 minutes later they finally managed to get me a seat. I was finally on my last flight after a quick connection in Atlanta.
This flight was the best flight, sat next to a Colombian lady who lives in New York. We had some red wine and she gave me a lot of Spanish lessons:) After we landed in Medellin and picked up our bags, she helped me negotiate a taxi. I was so thankful for this!!
A thirty minute drive later I finally arrived at the Wanderin Paisa were I was going to stay for the next three nights.
I decided that it was time for a career break. So handed in my notice to the company who I worked with for the last ten years. It's time to pack my bag and depart from Amsterdam which been my home town for the last 4.5 years. -"Amsterdam, it's not you it's me and I need a break!". Read more
