Puerto Galera my last and my longest stop on my Philippine trip. All the first trip that a kind of calm came over me since entering Asia. Maybe it was the tremendous place I was staying at, maybe it was the calm environment that had you do absolutely nothing, maybe it was the tranquil beach, really not sure but one thing is for sure... After moving around from place to place and not relaxing for a while then when you do; a bad horrible cold and cough catches up with you and floors you for a couple of days. Luckily I stayed at a very friendly place and the owners had a lot of strong ginger tea made for me!
Puerto Galera has three main beaches so coming here you will most likely find a beach that suits you.
The main beach of Puerto Galera, during low season it's not much happening during the week. We went here on a Tuesday evening and it was dead. Coming the weekend though a ton of weekend trippers from Manila arrives to enjoy the beach bars/restaurants and all the water sports on offer. So if you plan a weekend get away to this place then book your accommodation ahead...
What I've been told about this place is that it's the place where you have a lot of souvenir shops, the beach isn't the best and that the evening entertainment is best suited for western men. Think you know what I mean with the western men comment! Didn't visit this beach myself so maybe I shouldn't judge this place but one of the evenings when a guy asked two other guys in the resort if they wanted to go to Sabang Beach and completely ignored me in the invite, I kind of thought "ok, guess I know what kind of night he is after"!!! Doing a Google image search the beach looks pretty amazing though so I might be completely wrong:)
It might not be a white pristine beach but this was for me a perfect place to stay. Not many people around in low season, not always as dead as the picture might tell though! This beach only have a handful of places to stay and not many restaurants or bars. You be a close enough to walk to the more busy White Beach during low tide and if dark in evening you could easily take a tricycle back to your resort. On the walk over to white beach you will pass a few abandon resorts some just half completed. They look pretty cool though with nature taking over so worth the walk it self... If I ever go back to Puerto Galera then I would stay in Talipanan Beach again!!!

I decided that it was time for a career break. So handed in my notice to the company who I worked with for the last ten years. It's time to pack my bag and depart from Amsterdam which been my home town for the last 4.5 years. -"Amsterdam, it's not you it's me and I need a break!". Read more
