So I already mentioned that Laureles is a great place if you want to practice your Spanish, what other reasons do i have for choosing Laureles over the most popular area in Medellin?
I was never offered coke in Laureles and now we not talking the drinking kind, we talking the snorting kind. I visited El Poblado twice and both times was i offered coke walking up the street during day time. Now you might have two thoughts in your head, thought one: oh she is a party pooper, whats wrong with some coke??? Thought two: Has she only been in Poblado twice, how can she judge it so hard???
These are my answers to your thoughts, thought number one: I'm 36 years old and have never tried coke, feel that I'm a bit to old to have a go at it now!!! Don't mind people doing coke as long as you not a coke head:) To be fair, it wasnt so much that they offered coke that bothered me, it was more the general feeling of a lot of people hassling you to buy what ever they wanted to sell you. This could be anything from a taxi ride, fruit to coke. Thought number two: Yes I only visited El Poblado twice and both times i didn't stay long but mostly walked around. I do admit that there are some lovely gated communities there containing high rising buildings that must have magnificent views and yes there are a couple of great shopping centres. Other then that i didn't really see anything else that made me say wow.
So what did i like with Laureles?
Most importantly, I felt very safe walking around both during the day and night. Ok, i wasn't out at night night, but way after it got dark. I never felt uneasy in anyway. Saying that though, I wouldn't walk around with my gold Rolex or other fancy watch (if I owned one) or jewelleries but that is just common sense!!!
I decided that it was time for a career break. So handed in my notice to the company who I worked with for the last ten years. It's time to pack my bag and depart from Amsterdam which been my home town for the last 4.5 years. -"Amsterdam, it's not you it's me and I need a break!". Read more
